Table 3 compares the travel times of the true and pseudovelocity logs (eqn 27) and shows a maximum error of 5%, acceptable for most purposes. Scale functions were computed for wells drilled in two distinct geologic provinces of Indiana: the Cincinnati Arch and the Illinois Basin.

The plot is then divided into three parts (Fig. 16) and separate constants evaluated for each part. For the Midwest well the intervals were 10-90, 90-200 and 200-450 ohm-m. Although the divisions were chosen on the basis of slope changes in the scale function, the divisions approximate the resistivity ranges of shale, sandstone and limestone.
