From the articles two major theoretical themes emerge, which go beyond the transactional view: 1. fabric? of the organization or the society, working indeed as formative contexts, both cognitively and institutionally; therefore they are not just a set of tools, resources and technologies supporting the coordination of economic exchanges, but they also touch a deeper, constitutive layer; 2.

S emerging interest in change and innovation, and in this respect the academic year 1986/1987 was full of felicitous encounters. Claudio spent several months at Harvard University as a visiting scholar in the Graduate School of Education and was in close contact with a number of major scholars who had a significant influence on his new orientation. Particularly, he worked with organizational psychologist Chris Argyris, becoming acquainted with organizational learning theories and intervention practices and creatively transplanting them into the ICT field; also, at the Harvard Law School he attended the lectures of social critic and political theorist Roberto Mangabeira Unger on False Necessity (Unger, 1987), which was instrumental to the research work on the formative context (Ciborra and Lanzara, 1994).
