The multi-fan measurement system and the 1024 x 1024 display matrix ensure spatial resolution which surpasses that of CT systems operating with the start-stop method. The continuous rotation measurement system constitutes the prerequisite for developing new scanning techniques which advance diagnostic accuracy in pancreatic examinations. As compared to previous CT generations, the SOMATOM PLUS offers the following advantages: • Minimization of motion artifacts (caused by involuntary patient movement, vessel pulsation, and colon peristalsis).

Engelshoven, Maastricht: What is the reason for Siemens' changing the KV values from the initial 120 KV to the present 137 KV? Hupke: The reason for this measure is to optimize the quantum output when using the 1 sec or sub second scan times. v. Engelshoven: In addition, the focal spot was changed to a larger size which must result in a decrease of spatial resolution. Hupke: When using the 2 second high resolution mode a small focal spot size of 0,9 mm is always used. With a 1 second or subsecond scan a large focal spot size must be used in order to obtain sufficient quanta.

MALI, S. TJlAM, W. A. KALENDER Introduction Enlargement of hilar lymphnodes may be seen in many benign and malignant diseases (Table 1), such as in acute and chronic infectious diseases of the lungs, heart and mediastinum as well as in neoplastic diseases of the lung, thyroid, stomach, pancreas, colon, breast etc. (Table 2). Neoplastic disease of the lung is the most common cause of regional metastases in the hilar lymphnodes with or without enlargement. The prognosis of pulmonary carcinoma sharply decreases in proportion to the presence and extent of hilar lymphnode metastases (Table 3).
